Can I use Football Play Card offline or without internet?

Football Play Card is a web app, so you need an internet connection to create, edit, and view your plays. Here is how to take your plays to the field when you will not have one.

Football Play Card is a web app. You need an internet connection to log in, create, edit, save, and view your plays. There is no offline mode in the app.

If you will not have a reliable connection at the field, print your plays or download them to PDF before you leave. Printed cards and downloaded PDFs work with no connection at all.

What needs an internet connection

You need a connection to:

  • Log in to your account

  • Create a new play or play card

  • Draw or edit a play

  • Save a play

  • View your plays in the app

  • Share a binder or add a coach

  • Have your players take a quiz

You do not need a connection to:

  • Open a PDF you have already downloaded to your device

  • Use printed play cards or printed wristband inserts

How to use your plays offline

Take your plays off the web before the game, while you still have a connection. You have three options, and many coaches use more than one.

  1. Download your plays to PDF and save the file to your phone or tablet.

  2. Print your play cards on paper.

  3. Print play wristbands, also called wrist coach inserts. Nothing on the sideline is more reliable than a printed insert.

Save the PDF to the device itself. A file that lives only in Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox still needs a connection to open, unless you have marked it available offline. Open the PDF once with your wifi turned off to confirm it is really on your device before game day.

Creating and editing plays

Creating, drawing, editing, and saving plays all require an internet connection, every time.

Your plays are saved to your Football Play Card account rather than to the device you drew them on. That is what lets you start a play card on your laptop and open the same binder on your tablet or phone. It also means there is nothing stored on the device to work on while you are offline.

If you are planning around a bus ride, a field with no service, or a flight, build and print what you need before you go. If your connection drops while you are drawing, stop, get back online, reload the page, and check that your last change saved before you keep working.

Using a tablet on the sideline

Running the app on an iPad or Android tablet at the field works well when the field has wifi or cell service. The tablet is showing you the app, not a stored copy of your playbook, so it needs a connection the same way your laptop does.

If service at your field is spotty, bring a printed play card, a wristband insert, or a downloaded PDF as your backup.
