# How do I write player assignments?
## Tell each player their job in words, especially up front.
A player assignment is a short piece of text that tells one player what their job is on a play. You write them in the **Assignments** panel beside the play, and they matter most for linemen, where a drawn route does not say much.
### How do I open the Assignments panel?
1. Open a play in the play editor.
2. Select **View**, then **Assignments**, or select the **Assignments** button on the toolbar at the right. On a phone, tap the **Assignments** button in the top bar, and the panel opens from the bottom of the screen.
The panel lists every player on the play in groups, such as Skills and Offensive Line, with each player's letter beside a box. The count at the top, such as 3 of 11, shows how many players have an assignment.
### How do I write an assignment?
1. Select the box next to the player's letter.
2. Type the assignment.
3. Press **Enter** to keep it and move to the next player. Pressing **Tab** or selecting somewhere else keeps it too.
4. Save the play. Assignments are part of the play, so they are saved when you save it.
Selecting a player on the field highlights their row in the panel, and the player whose row you are on gets a dashed green ring on the field, so you always know who you are writing for.
Once a box has text, you can mark the player **PS** (Play Side) or **BS** (Back Side). Shared assignment wristbands use it. See "[How do I print assignment wristbands?](https://knowledge.footballplaycard.com/how-do-i-print-assignment-wristbands?hsLang=en)".
### How do I give several players the same assignment?
1. Select the letter of each player who shares the job. Each letter you select is ticked, and a bar at the top counts them.
2. Select one of their boxes and type the assignment once.
3. Press **Enter**.
The text goes to every ticked player and the ticks clear. One undo takes it back off all of them. Tick the players first, then type.
### Frequently Asked Questions
### What shows on the play card?
- While the Assignments panel is open, a small green dot marks each player who has an assignment, and a dashed green ring marks the player you are writing for. The assignment text does not sit on the card, so the diagram stays readable, and the dots and ring do not print.
### Can I reuse the same wording across plays?
- Yes. When you select a box, buttons under it offer phrases your staff has already typed on the plays you have open, then route, block, coverage and rush names. Select one to use it. If the player had an assignment on the play before, it shows in grey, and **Tab** fills it in. To see every phrase, select **Manage team terms** at the bottom of the panel. There is no list to keep up: it builds itself from what you type.
### Why is an assignment already filled in?
- When you give a player a route, block, coverage or rush from the Toolbox, Football Play Card fills in their assignment to match and tags it RTE until someone edits it. If the player already has an assignment you typed, it asks **Replace assignment?** first.
### How do I check for missing assignments?
